For Complex’s coverage of the Academy Awards, I led the art direction for how the brand would show up across social in real time, creating a visual system that moved beyond standard award-show recap graphics and felt distinctly native to Complex’s bold, editorial voice. Instead of relying on templated winner cards, I developed a modular design language inspired by magazine layouts and broadcast graphics, built around strong typographic hierarchy, image-led compositions, and a repeatable grid that allowed the team to react quickly to live moments without sacrificing craft. This system scaled across winner announcements, red carpet highlights, and cultural reactions throughout the night, making each post feel like part of a cohesive visual narrative rather than isolated graphics. The result was the highest-performing Oscars coverage Complex has produced to date, proving how thoughtful art direction and consistent design can elevate real-time social content into a branded editorial experience.
